Apply AI to yield, inspection, metrology and design-for-manufacturing — alongside, not instead of, VLSI hardware design

RIA’s AI in Semiconductor Design track is for engineers and analysts who work with fab, test, and EDA data. You learn how AI supports yield learning, virtual metrology, wafer inspection and layout copilots.

It does not replace Professional VLSI & Semiconductor Design (Verilog, UVM, FPGA, physical design). Use both if you want RTL plus AI-on-the-flow.

What you will learn

  • Semiconductor design-to-silicon flow literacy
  • Yield, defect, and process-variation concepts
  • Inspection and metrology data for computer vision
  • EDA copilot patterns with human DFM review
  • Equipment / test-log anomaly detection
  • IP, NDA, and foundry-data ethics
  • Capstone: yield or inspection assist case study
  • Clear boundary vs the VLSI RTL/UVM programme

Full program syllabus & curriculum

Domain literacy + applied AI labs + responsible review + capstone

  • AI in Semiconductor Design

We teach AI that sits on the semiconductor design and manufacturing flow — yield, lithography, metrology, EDA copilots and design-for-manufacturing — complementary to RIA’s RTL/UVM VLSI programme, not a replacement for it.

    Domain Knowledge We Teach
    • Semiconductor value chain: design, fab, assembly, test
    • Design-to-silicon flow and where data is generated
    • Yield, defect density, and process variation literacy
    • Lithography, inspection, and metrology concepts
    • Safety, IP, and foundry data-confidentiality constraints
    AI Skills You Will Learn
    • Yield and virtual-metrology models from process data
    • Computer vision for wafer / die inspection assist
    • EDA and layout copilots: constraint-aware suggestions
    • Anomaly detection on equipment and test logs
    • Responsible AI with foundry NDAs and human review
    Hands-on Outcomes
    • Build a yield / defect classification case study
    • Prototype an inspection-assist vision workflow
    • Document DFM checks an AI copilot may flag
    • Compare this track with VLSI & Semiconductor Design
    • Present a semiconductor AI mini-project with limits stated

Common questions

  • Is this the same as RIA’s VLSI course?

No. VLSI is RTL, verification and physical design. This track applies AI to yield, inspection, metrology and EDA assist on that flow.

  • Do I need fab experience?

Helpful, not mandatory. We teach process literacy first; practising process/yield engineers accelerate into modelling labs.

  • Will you use confidential foundry data?

No. Labs use public or synthetic datasets. Real foundry work stays under NDA with human review.

Skills you build

  • Yield and virtual-metrology modelling literacy
  • Vision-assisted inspection workflows
  • Constraint-aware EDA copilot thinking
  • Responsible handling of process and IP-sensitive data

Who this is for

  • ECE / VLSI / process engineering students
  • Yield, test, and quality engineers
  • EDA and design-support professionals
  • Data scientists moving into semiconductor ops
