Fabric Painting

Colour on cloth

Fabric painting puts colour on cloth with a brush or a simple stamp. The class uses cotton or another plain cloth, and a fabric colour or a textile medium named by the instructor. A scrap is tested before any garment. Heat-setting follows the label on the colour in use, and only when the instructor asks for it. Wash-fastness is not promised beyond that test.

  • Stretching or taping cloth so it does not shift
  • A drawing in removable marks, then colour inside those marks
  • A scrap test for bleed and for how the colour sits after it dries
  • Brushes kept for cloth, washed before the colour sets in the ferrule
  • One finished cloth piece, with the scrap test kept beside it
