Paper Quilling

Rolled paper strips

Paper quilling rolls and pinches strips of paper into coils and shapes, then glues those shapes into a small design. The glue is a paper glue, used on the edge of a coil, not poured in a pool. A slotted tool or a needle tool starts the roll. The finished piece is a paper relief, framed or mounted in class.

  • Even strips, a tight coil, a loose coil, and how much glue is enough
  • Teardrop, marquise, eye and square shapes pinched from a coil
  • A simple layout drawn first, so the coils have a place to sit
  • Spacing, a border, and pressing the work flat while the glue sets
  • One small finished quilling, mounted, with the unused strips kept tidy
