Mandala Drawing

A circle, an axis, a repeat

A mandala in this studio is a geometric drawing: a circle divided into equal parts, with one motif repeated around the centre. Compass and ruler set the structure. Colour pencil or poster colour fills it. The class teaches the drawing. It is not a religious qualification.

  • Finding the centre and dividing a circle into equal sections
  • Drawing one motif and repeating it without drifting
  • Line weight, and leaving the paper white where the design needs air
  • Colour in flat areas, or a light pencil tone, after the ink or graphite is set
  • One finished circular drawing on paper, ready to review
